The macilent carrot discerped the vegetarian janitrix, or Key lime pie.

Today is Alex's 30-somethingeth birthday. Happy Birthday, Alex!

We were going to make a bacon dessert, but since Alex decided to celebrate his birthday at a Brazilian steakhouse (again), I thought we'd make him something a little healthier (limes are healthier than bacon):

We used this recipe from Pioneer Woman.

First we crushed the graham crackers:

Then we mixed them with sugar and melted butter:

And pressed into a pie pan:

While the pie crust baked, we mixed together 2 egg yolks, key lime juice, and key lime zest:

And added sweetened condensed milk:

And mixed:

After pouring into the pie crust and baking, we refrigerated the pie until our return from Meatfest '09. We came back to this:

But first, of course, we had to make the whipped cream, using 1 cup heavy cream and 1 tablespoon sugar:

I guess it's back to the Wii Fit tomorrow...:

I'm laughing because every year, Joshua asks for Key Lime Pie for his birthday dessert. And every year, we have the same conversation: "would you like the meringue topping or whipping cream?" "Whipping cream, it is my birthday".

I'm inspired by this. I may consider letting my dudes cross the threshold of the kitchen. Not convinced I can trust them around a flame, but it's a start:)

yum yum yum! That is definitely better than bacon Holly! Great Choice. You've got a good chef to go with it too.
